01:48 pm - I despise you Picked up the Shadoks release of the Liverpool LP yesterday. If you don't know what I'm talking about, Liverpool were a rock band from Brazil who recorded one of the best psych LPs ever to come out of South America, in 1968. I've been waiting for over 2 years (maybe even 3+) since Shadoks first announced they would be doing this reissue to get my copy and it's the best thing they've done in ages. As a bonus, they included a nice reissue of their equally fantastic 1970 ep. I also picked up a vinyl (mono!) reissue of the July lp. Also from 1968, July is one of the best albums of classic British psychedelia and features Tony Duhig, John Field and Tom Newman. Duhig and Field went on to be in Jade Warrior and Tom Newman later released solo albums on Virgin and Decca. Newman also set up Branson's Manor Studios and engineered 'Tubular Bells', Henry Cow's first album, etc.

Looking forward to a week in Cape Cod, less than 2 weeks away.
0 Comments on my last 2 posts. w.t.f.? I'll get better lighting on my turntable for the next one, ok?
Edit: Check out some July: 'as if Pink Floyd, Sgt. Pepper, and Jimi Hendrix all collided one evening at the Middle Earth, with a bit of Maroccan brick and curry' http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=59857025

09:30 pm - dying makes you better Just ask Isaac Hayes! Seriously, I never could understand the praise heaped on his overweight, cheesy string & horn saturated, overproduced, boring, cliche-ridden discography. Ok, his early career at Stax, maybe, but that was long ago. He buried his early promise with so much crap, so fast...then he died. Now people are acting like we lost the last great American artist or something. I call bullshit. Except for that footage of his appearance at Wattstax, it's all hype. Shut your mouth! Now, Dennis Coffey, on the other hand, deserves that kind of respect...and he's still alive. Wake up and smell the Dennis Coffey, fools!

06:06 pm - KILLER POTATO CHIPS OF DEATH FROM THE DARK SIDE OF DOOM I love potato chips. Recent news reports about the carcinogen acrylamide (used in waste water treatment, also formed when foods are deep fried) have mentioned the high levels of acrylamide in Cape Cod Robust Russet potato chips - 25x the recommended safe level! These happen to be among my very favorite potato chips. I was saddened by the news yesterday that Cape Cod Potato Chips are discontinuing the Robust Russet chip due to the acrylamide factor. Then, today, I found a supply of them at the store across the street from work, so I bought two bags. Cancer be damned, these chips are awesome, so I've decided to enjoy them while I still can!

CNN story which states "Robust Russets (sic) are no longer being sold" http://www.cnn.com/2008/HEALTH/08/02/chip.lawsuit.ap/index.html

12:52 pm - Photographer/Tripping

I still haven't completely unpacked.
This weekend I am still feeling the 'on vacation' vibe despite having been back to work for a week. I picked up some wine from the South of France, a baguette and some cheese and watched a couple of movies.
Yesterday, I tried to track down the vinyl reissue of The Peace - Black Power (ltd. to 500 copies) and failed. My friend's store sold out of it within hours of getting it in stock. It didn't even make it into the bins... So instead, I picked up a nifty 4-song 7" of The Pretty Things A House in the Country/Tripping/Photographer/Progress (demo) on Norton Records. Only $4, and it's a beautiful thing!

04:24 pm - 150 Southern France Trip Pix

Here's a link to my pictures from the family barge cruise in Southern France, celebrating my parents' 50-yr. anniversary. We had a great time, beautiful weather, awesome food and wine etc. There was a nice mix of bucolic countryside, Roman ruins, medieval cities, quaint villages, wildlife and activities. I sampled about two-dozen wines and 20+ cheeses. I didn't read a word of the book I brought with me and no one played the Scrabble game I brought along either, but that was fine. From Agde to Avignon in 7 days, we visited Montpellier, Pezenas, Vallabregues, Arles, Marseillan, and Aigues-Mortes on the way. If you like white wines, I highly recommend Chateau L'Hermitage St. Cecil Blanc, my favorite wine of the trip. I also did a wine-tasting at Chateauneuf Du Pape where there were some intense red wines I doubt many of us can afford...

03:20 pm - No Sleep 'til Montpellier I'm flying to Paris tomorrow night, then catching the haul-ass train to Montpellier to meet up with the kohntarkosz clan for a week on a boat slowly cruising the southern coast. I will eat cheese. I will drink wine. I will read 'Condominium'. I will have pictures of French things when I return.
